Course Description
In this unit students develop the skills and knowledge required to identify Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cultural safety issues in the workplace, model cultural safety in own work practice, and develop strategies to enhance cultural safety.
This unit is delivered and assessed with CHCDIV001 Work with diverse people. It is also delivered with CHCCOM002 - Use communication to build relationships. This unit is assessed separately.

Details of Learning Activities
Classes are delivered during face to face workshops (subject to Government restrictions due to Covid 19) During classes, information is shared through talks and discussions. Workshops will take place, with exercises will be conducted to apply learning.
Time is spent during classes for students to work on group assessment tasks. In your own time, you will be expected to keep up-to-date with the readings and videos that will be made available to you on Canvas. The classes, readings and videos will prepare you to be able to complete your course assessments.

Assessment Tasks
Assessment 1- Knowledge Questions
This assessment requires you to demonstrate the skills and knowledge required to work respectfully with people from diverse social and cultural groups and situations, including Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people. You will be showing how you can identify Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cultural safety issues in the workplace and model good cultural safety practices in your own work practices. This will include developing strategies to enhance cultural safety.
Assessment 2- Research task
This assessment requires you to demonstrate the skills and knowledge required to work respectfully with people from diverse social and cultural groups and situations including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. You will be showing how you can you be effectively work with these diverse groups in Australia. You are required to conduct your own research to respond to the questions in this assessment.
Assessment Task 3: Presentation/Video
This assessment requires you to demonstrate the skills and knowledge around culture and diversity of Australian
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Completing this task allows you to demonstrate your ability to:
· identify cultural safety issues in the workplace
· model cultural safety
· develop strategies to improve cultural safety within an organisation
· evaluate cultural safety strategies
Assessment Task 4: Role play & Reflection
This assessment is on the topic of cross-cultural communications and resolving misunderstandings.
This assessment requires you to demonstrate the skills and knowledge to work respectfully with people from diverse
social and cultural groups and situations, including Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people. You will show how
you can identify diversity and cultural safety issues in the workplace and model good cultural safety practices. This will
include developing strategies to enhance cultural safety.
You will be provided the opportunity to complete one role plays/meeting with an Elder from the Aboriginal
community.
