Course Description

In this unit students will develop the skills and knowledge required to establish relationships, clarify needs, and then work collaboratively with people who are living with mental health issues.

Classes where information is shared through talks and group discussions, and exercises are conducted to apply learning. Time in class, will also be spent working on applied assessment tasks. Note: All learning activities are delivered via remote learning in Semester 2, 2020.

Assessment Tasks

Assessment Task 1: The purpose of this assessment is to demonstrate your understanding of working with people with mental health issues and
working effectively in trauma informed care.  The student will respond to fourteen questions and provide answers within required word limit

Assessment Task 2: This is a knowledge quiz task based on what you have learnt from the first four classes. You may need to do your own additional research as well. You are being assessed on your knowledge of the Mental Health and Trauma service sector in youth work.

Assessment Task 3: The purpose of this assignment understands mental health in practice. This assessment has two (2) parts. Part A – Role play (you are required to play the role of the worker once) Part B – Reflection report

Assessment Task 4: This assessment consists of three tasks and should be completed during your time on placement. Task 1 – Observation assessment (working with three individual clients) and reflection questions Task 2 – Self-care plan. Task 3 – Written reflection questions

Students enrolled in Vocational Education and Training qualifications are assessed for Competency. To be assessed as Competent means you have consistently demonstrated the required knowledge and skills to a standard expected in the workplace. To be assessed as Competent in this course, you will need to complete each assessment task to a satisfactory standard. You will receive feedback from the teacher at the conclusion of each assessment task.
