Course Description
The ability to safely undertake basic electrical repair and maintenance of technical equipment used within the live production, event and audiovisual industries is a skill which is highly valued by employers.
In this course you will learn to select and attach electric plugs and flexible power cables to electrical equipment for connection to supplies up to 230V a.c. and perform electrical safety inspections and tests as necessary.

You will be able to:
- Work safely.
- Identify plug and flexible power cable configurations.
- Attach 230 volt flexible cords and plugs to AV equipment.
- Check 230 volt cords and plugs for safety.
- Select and use electrical testing and measuring equipment.
- Inspect and test 230 volt cords for correct operation and safety.
Details of Learning Activities
Learning activities in this course include but are not limited to:
- Practical theory classes.
- Demonstrations of flexible cables and connectors, methods of anchoring and connector attachment.
- 230 volt power cable construction practical assessment exercise.
- Assembled cable testing using Portable Appliance Testers (PAT)
- Reading notes and other resources
You will be responsible for your learning and will be expected to engage in independent research, reading and study.

Assessment Tasks
Assessment:
This course is ungraded.
To demonstrate competency in this course, you need to complete all of the following assessments to a satisfactory standard.
You will receive feedback on all assessment.
Grading criteria for this assessment can be found on the course blackboard site.
- Completion of Individual written, Required Knowledge Worksheet.
Each student will complete a worksheet about knowledge evidence for the unit.
This assessment will occur during class #1 and can be completed and submitted online during the pause period between classes 3 and 4.
Knowledge evidence assessments require 100% satisfactory completion.
- Individual open-book practical assessment - 230 volt power cable construction
Each student will construct and test a 230 volt power cable. (This assessment must be conducted in the presence of the assessor.)
(This assessment may be completed during classes 1,2,3 or 4)
Practical skill evidence assessments require 100% satisfactory completion.
