Course Description

When you work in the live production, events and audiovisual industries, you could be working in the public or private sector and interacting with a wide range of people including work colleagues, supervisors, clients and other arts professionals in contexts such as community projects, exhibitions, events or festivals.

The ability to effectively communicate concepts and ideas both verbally and in writing with these people is a crucial skill which is highly valued by employers in the above industries. 

 

Developing your communication skills can help all aspects of your life, from your professional life to social gatherings and everything in between.  The ability to communicate information accurately, clearly and as intended, is a vital life skill and something that should not be overlooked. 

 

In this course you will be exposed to a range of industry professionals and effective communication skills which will assist you to work in the live production, events and audiovisual industries.

Out of class self-directed learning activities include but are not limited to; revision and editing of class notes, private research, project work and preparation for assessment.

1 Course overview and assessment requirements. From Week 1 to 5, there will be a series of lectures given by industry professionals. These guest speakers will be giving you information on their professional experience and you are encouraged to ask questions. You will be taking notes on what the guest speaker is presenting and sharing and discussing these notes with your peers and with the assessor.

To demonstrate competency in this course you will need to complete all of the following pieces of assessment to a satisfactory standard. You will receive written feedback on all assessment (refer to MyRMIT for assessment criteria).

 

Assessment 1 of 1 - Notes from Guest Speaker Presentations (Individual assessment)

You will listen to five live production and audiovisual industry guest speakers and submit your own notes about their career and the company where they are employed.

  1. Obtain the ‘Guest Speaker Cheat Sheet’ document and a Guest Speaker Assessment Note Recording Sheet to record your notes and questions during the guest speaker presentations.
  2. You will be assessed on the information you write on the Guest Speaker Assessment Note Recording sheet so be sure to thoroughly complete all sections.

Submit your completed Guest Speaker Assessment Note Recording Sheet to the teacher at the end of the class.

This assessment will be conducted and submitted in weeks 1-5, Semester 2, 2017.
