Course Description

In this unit you will learn the skills and knowledge required to apply quality standards to work operations in an organisation.

You will learn the application of skills associated with interpreting and applying workplace standards and identifying and addressing problems that interfere with quality outcomes. This unit requires initiative, enterprise and self-management to ensure quality standards are achieved.

This unit is delivered and assessed with MANU7373C (MSTFP2001) Identify Materials used in footwear production.

Details of Learning Activities

Integrated learning activities in this course consists of theory and practical components carried out in a workshop environment. Throughout the course, you will develop the skills and knowledge to create custom-made footwear products.  You will learn to use and work with a range of materials, suppliers and components used in footwear manufacturing.

This is a Vocational Education and Training qualification and is assessed for Competency. To be assessed as Competent means you have consistently demonstrated the required knowledge and skills at a standard required in the workplace. To be assessed as Competent in this course, you will need to complete each assessment task to a satisfactory standard. You will receive feedback from the teacher at the conclusion of each assessment task.

Assessment Tasks

Task 1

 

Summary and Purpose of Assessment

This short-answer assessment task is one of three assessment tasks you need to complete satisfactorily, in order to be deemed competent for this cluster. 

 

This assessment task allows you to demonstrate your knowledge required to:

  • Apply quality standards
  • Identify materials used in footwear production.

 

Assessment Instructions

What

  • You must satisfactorily answer all 15 questions
  • You should answer all questions in the spaces provided, using full sentences, word count and dot points when requested
  • All work must be your own

Where

This is an online assessment task. You will need to answer all questions on CANVAS.

 

How

The knowledge assessment is accessed through the Canvas shell and you must complete and submit your responses within the allocated assessment time frame.

 

If you are not able to attend the scheduled assessment time frame you need to advise your teacher so that an alternative assessment arrangement can be made. This knowledge assessment is an individual assessment task that must be completed with minimal support from your supervisor (allowed support includes further explanation of the task requirements or explanation of assessment criteria etc).

Task 2

Summary and Purpose of Assessment

This practical assessment task is the second of three assessment tasks you need to complete satisfactorily, in order to be deemed competent for this cluster. 

 

This practical assessment will allow you to demonstrate your ability to apply quality standards to work operations and take actions specified in the procedures and within scope of own job and authority to ensure quality standards are met. 

 

At the conclusion of the observation, your Assessor will ask you a range of questions to assess your knowledge of materials used in footwear production and quality processes. 

 

Assessment Instructions

 

What

During your course, you will be continuously observed making the following 5 shoes:

  • 1 x court shoe-flat
  • 1 x derby shoe
  • 1 x Oxford shoe
  • 2 x Roman sandals

 

The focus of this assessment is to demonstrate your ability to assess your own work against standards; identify, report and record faults, investigate causes and to take required action.

Where

This assessment will be conducted in the footwear workshop.

How

You will be assessed against the criteria as listed in the observation checklist in Section B of this task and how well you answer the questions asked by your assessor. To achieve a satisfactory result, you will need to address all criteria satisfactorily.

 

Task 3

Summary and Purpose of Assessment

This project is one of three assessment tasks you need to complete satisfactorily, in order to be deemed competent for this unit.  Completing this project allows you to demonstrate how you assess quality and investigate causes of quality deviations.  

Assessment Instructions

 

What

You are required to monitor and tally defects during the process of making 5 pairs of shoes in your practical assessment.  You will complete the ‘Quality Checks’ form to:

  • Tally and record total defects identified
  • Complete 5 whys for one defect identified
  • Identify immediate corrective action required and
  • Future preventative action required. 

 

Where

This assessment will be conducted in the footwear workshop. 

How

You will be assessed against the criteria listed in the marking guide in Section B of this task. To achieve a satisfactory result, you will need to address all criteria satisfactorily.

Penalties for late Submission of Assignments (F&T): 

Late submission or presentation of assessable work without an approved extension will be penalised as follows: 

Complete work submitted 1 to 7 days late will incur a penalty of 5% per day on your final mark 

Partial or incomplete work submitted 1 to 7 days late will incur a penalty of 5% per day on your final mark for the entire assessable work 

Work submitted after day 7 will be awarded an NN grade and 0% mark 

Weekends and holiday periods are included in the calculation of the late penalty 

Where a due date includes a specific time for submission or presentation, submissions after that time on the due date incur a 5% penalty.
