Course Description

In this unit, students will gain the skills and knowledge required to work respectfully with people from diverse social and cultural groups and situations, including Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.

This unit is taught and assessed with CHCDIV001 Work with diverse people.

Classes where information is shared through talks and group discussions, and exercises are conducted to apply learning. Time in class, will also be spent working on applied assessment tasks.

Assessment Tasks

Assessment Task 1: This assessment requires you to demonstrate the skills and knowledge required to work respectfully with people from diverse social and cultural groups and situations, including Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people. You will be showing how you can identify Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cultural safety issues in the workplace and model good cultural safety practices in your own work practices. This will include developing strategies to enhance cultural safety.

Assessment Task 2: This assessment requires you to demonstrate the skills and knowledge required to work respectfully with people from diverse social and cultural groups and situations including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. You will be showing how you can you be effectively work with these diverse groups in Australia. You are required to conduct your own research to respond to the questions in this assessment.

Assessment Task 3: This assessment requires you to demonstrate the skills and knowledge around culture and diversity of Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. 

Assessment Task 4: This assessment is on the topic of cross-cultural communications and resolving misunderstandings. This assessment requires you to demonstrate the skills and knowledge to work respectfully with people from diverse social and cultural groups and situations, including Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people. You will show how you can identify diversity and cultural safety issues in the workplace and model good cultural safety practices. This will include developing strategies to enhance cultural safety.
