Course Description

 In this course you will gain the skills and knowledge required to cooperate in mutual agreement on the activities, outcomes and processes of young people’s family members/nominated carers, for the purpose of achieving goals identified in consultation with the young person to address their concerns and/or risks.  

This unit is taught and assessed in a cluster with:

CHCYTH005 - Develop and implement procedures to enable young people to address their needs

CHCYTH008 - Support young people to take collective action

CHCYTH009 - Support youth programs

CHCDEV002 - Analyse sociological factors on clients in community work and services

CHCYTH012 - Manage service response to young people in crisis


120 hours of work placement undertaking youth work practice support the learning and assessment of these units

Assessment Tasks

Assessment Task 1-Knowledge Questions

For this assessment task you are required to apply your knowledge to youth work. You will need to consider what is involved in youth work and how to apply the knowledge when working as a youth worker.

Assessment Task 2-Organisational frameworks

The purpose of this assessment is for you to demonstrate your understanding of policy frameworks and key issues facing young people and youth workers.

Assessment Task 3- Presentation

This assessment task is to demonstrate your skills and knowledge to identify youth organisations and the support services they are providing to the target group.

Assessment Task 4-Role Play

In this assessment you will play the role of the youth worker to solve a youth work dilemma.

Assessment Task 5- Community Project

The purpose of this assessment is to devise, coordinate, deliver and evaluate an event/program. You will document the outcomes in a report covering your research, crisis response framework plan and evaluation.

Assessment Task 6-Practical – observation and questions

This is a practical assessment which will take place in the workplace. You will also be required to answer ten (10) questions following the practical task.

The purpose of this assessment is to support young people in decision making and participation. You will apply youth work practices to encourage and support young people in undertaking action to resolve issues of concern.

Assessment Task 7-Placement reflection

This Task is to provide an opportunity for the student to conduct research and reflect on their placement experience and identify areas for improvement. Use the  information from your research and placement experience to complete this task.

Assessment Task 8-Placement observation

For this task students also need to submit completed and signed logbooks as evidence of hours they have completed during their placement.
