Course Description

In this course you will acquire the skills and knowledge required to interpret audio production requirements, participate in technical run-throughs and operate professional audio equipment during live performances in the screen, media, entertainment and events industries.

1.1 Determine audio requirements using required documentation and consultation with required personnel

1.2 Position and set up equipment for operation according to production requirements

1.3 Plot and run through cues on direction from required personnel and according to equipment, sequencing, timing and speed requirements

1.4 Implement and document changes to audio operations according to organisational procedures

1.5 Communicate technical information to performers and presenters

3.1 Execute audio cues according to running sheets or directions from required personnel

3.2 Identify changes required during performances and modify cues to cater for unexpected events and minimise negative impact on performances

3.3 Produce required technical level and tonal balances using console

3.4 Adjust equalisation for required tonal balance

3.5 Balance signal levels

3.6 Maintain overall audio level in line with requirements of environment

3.7 Play back audio effects through speakers according to requirements

3.8 Monitor equipment throughout performances and resolve problems as required

Details of Learning Activities

In class activities will include a range of teacher directed group activities, projects, class exercises, review discussions/lectures and independent project based work.

Out-of-class activities include completion of individual design and pre-production work, preparation for class presentations and production work. Online research and occasional outside of class time group discussions will be required to maintain project work.

Overview of Assessment

Assessment for this course is ongoing throughout the semester. Your knowledge and understanding of course content is assessed through participation in class exercises, oral/written presentations and through the application of learned skills and insights. Full assessment briefs will be provided and can be found on CANVAS.


Assessment Tasks

To demonstrate competency in this course you will need to complete the following assessment tasks to a satisfactory standard. You will receive feedback on all assessments and once you have demonstrated competency you will also receive a result after your final assessment task.

 

Assessment Tasks

Semester 2

Assessment Task 2: Knowledge Assessment. Answer questions on the knowledge areas of the unit. Due by Week 4, Semester 2.

Assessment Task 1: Practical Assessment. This practical assessment will allow you to demonstrate competency for the practical components of this unit. You will undertake live audio operations in a group of no more than five students and demonstrate your skills and knowledge during the live performance. You will have 3 hours to complete the assessment. Due by Week 16, Semester 2.
