Assessment will involve practical exercises, knowledge assessment tasks and practical group projects.
ASSESSMENT TASK 1: Describe three theories of creativity. Ungraded
Due in class of Week 4 (Class 2A –Mon 2nd March, Class 2B Wed – 4th March.)
Concepts and theories of creativity have developed over the last century and continue to evolve.
You are asked to survey some existing theories and concepts and choose some that you would like to understand better.
You will need to conduct your own research project into a past, a current and an emerging theory or concept. You can use the RMIT library to access journals and academic papers to help you in this task. You must present your sources of information and follow RMIT guidelines for citation and referencing. Please make sure you understand the concept of plagiarism and relevant RMIT policy.
a) Find and compare three theories or concepts of creativity – one past (more than 30 years old), one very recent (proposed in the last 20 years), one emerging (currently developing – as published in the last five years). For an emerging theory or concept you may choose recent developments or reviews of an established, older theory or concept.
b) Describe the theories or concepts you have chosen in your own words. Think about the theories you have chosen to look at until you feel you have some understanding of them. It is important you are able to explain your understanding of the theories or concepts you have chosen because you will be asked later to speculate on how you might apply them. Simply quoting the writing of others is not adequate evidence of a grasp of the theories or concepts you have chosen. Plagiarism is not acceptable.
ASSESSMENT TASK 2 - Promoting and implementing innovative practice (Note: this assessment task is graded)
Due in class of Week 15 (Class 2A – Mon 25th May, Class 2B Wed 27th May)
For this assessment you are to put together a proposal for promoting and implementing an innovative practice, including how you would develop an innovative work environment.
Your proposal should build on your research into a particular theory or concept of creativity and include an explanation of how this theory could be put into practice.
You will present your proposal to the class in a 5-minute presentation and submit a written copy of your proposal (500 to 800 words).
Grades which apply to courses delivered in accordance with competency-based assessment, but which also use graded assessment:
CHD Competent with High Distinction
CDI Competent with Distinction
CC Competent with Credit
CAG Competent achieved graded
