Course Description
This unit of competency specifies the outcomes required to manage environmental management practices and processes in building and construction, as part of the organisation’s overall management system. To successfully manage practices and processes requires knowledge of current trends in environmental practices and methodologies, statistical analysis and legislative requirements.

You have to pass Assessment 1 and 2to obtain a satisfactory result.
Assessment 1 – Environmental Management Plan Template
This assessment is a project based assessment task using an EMP Template for the structure to develop an individual Template. The assessment will follow the ISO 14001 structure. It will cover the following sections:
• Table of Contents
• Background
• Environmental Management
• Implementation
• Monitor and Review
• Appendices and Referencing
Overall this assessment is 50% and due in Week 11
You will need to meet at least the basic requirements for all these sections to pass.
If you fail to achieve a satisfactory result of a minimum 50% of marks, you will only be able to resubmit the failed elements as part of Assessment 2 – Case Study.
Only if you pass the Case Study will the failed elements of Assessment 1 be reviewed.
Resubmits for Assessment 1 will receive a maximum of 50% marks.
Assessment 2 – Environmental Management Plan Case Study
This assessment is a project based assessment task where students will be using their EMP template and adjusting this to reflect a site specific EMP for a case study site.
The revised EMP will include the Environmental Aspects and Scenarios that are relevant to the Case Study Site.
Information on Background and Environmental Management and supporting documents need to be revised for the issues specific to the Case Study Site.
Overall this assessment is 30% and due in Week 16
You will need to highlight failed elements from Assessment 1 in Assessment 2.
Assessment 3 – Online quizzes (4)
In weeks 3,6,9 and 12 students will undertake an online quiz as open book referring to the information delivered from the preceding weeks.
Each quiz is worth 5% of the overall mark, with a total of 20%.
