Course Description
This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to construct a complete trial prosthesis for upper and lower arch, suitable for insertion in the mouth, then convert it to clinically acceptable materials and finish according to laboratory standards.
This unit applies to work in dental technology.

Overview of Assessment
You must show evidence of the ability to complete tasks outlined in elements and performance criteria of this unit, manage tasks and manage contingencies in the context of the job role. There must be evidence that you have:
• read and correctly interpreted 2 work orders, arranged artificial teeth, and used standard precautions and safe work practices to wax, process and finish 1 maxillary and 1 mandibular complete acrylic prosthesis to a standard suitable for insertion in the mouth
• critically evaluated the 2 complete acrylic prostheses produced to meet technical laboratory and patient requirements, including confirming that each acrylic prosthesis:
- is compliant with the work order
- is free from defects
- is functionally effective in line with the design and occlusion and is suitable for insertion in the mouth.
To be deemed competent you must demonstrate an understanding of all aspects required of the competency.
Regular attendance is necessary.
Assessment methods have been designed to measure your achievement of each competency in a flexible manner over multiple tasks and consist of theory and practical based tasks.
