Course Description
The ability to effectively operate sound equipment is crucial to working in the live production industries.
In this course you will plan, set up and operate stage monitor systems for live productions and events.
Individuals who apply these skills are expected to display a high level of initiative and judgement as they take responsibility for addressing the on-stage mixing requirements.
This is the designated Work Integrated Learning (WIL) course for C6150 Advanced Diploma of Music Industry (Sound Production). In this course, feedback from industry and/or community is integral to your experience.
This course includes a WIL experience in which your knowledge and skills will be applied and assessed in a workplace context.
As part of this course you are required to undertake supervised learning/assessment in your chosen industry area, gaining invaluable experience and industry contacts.
Workplace Assessment Requirements
An agreement including schedule and relevant insurance documentation is required to be completed before commencing each assessment placement. In the case where a placement ends early, please refer to 6. Early Termination of Placements in the Work Integrated Learning Procedure.

- Evaluate the performance of the stage monitor systems at the conclusion of the performance.

Teaching Schedule
SEM 1:
Class 1 & 2 Advanced Live Sound Reinforcement. Use of live mixing consoles. Introduction, explanation and demonstrations of Allen & Heath QU24 console and Digico SD11 consoles.
Activity 1 (2 studio sessions) Completion and uploading of Live Digital Console simulation mix (QU24 mix) 1 x 3hr sessions
Activity 2 (2 studio sessions) Completion and uploading of Live Digital Console simulation mix (SD11 mix) 1 x 3hr sessions
Guest Lectures Classes will be augmented by guest industry speakers who will augment training with event relevant production techniques
SEM 2:
Activity 3 (<= 6 live music / television event productions in industry)Involvement and monitored participation of Main Live Event as sound crew in allocated role - graded against rubrik

Overview of Assessment
Assessment for this course will involve demonstration of practical tasks and testing of your knowledge.
Practical tasks will focus on live sound productions, utilising a range of sound reinforcement equipment, and include studio based post production of live recordings.
Assessment Tasks
SEMESTER 1:
1) QU24 MIX (ungraded)
2) SD11 MIX (ungraded)
- You will complete 2 audio bounce / mixdowns on specific mixing consoles, on campus, of supplied raw audio file recordings of the previous year's performances at the allocated event. The consoles will be used in this year's production, so the assessment confirms your familiarisation with the units in preparation for live production.
- Assessment 1 will be made on an Allen & Heath QU24 console, and Assessment 2 on a Digico SD11 console.
SEMESTER 2:
3) EVENT ROLE COMPLETION (Graded)
- Your involvement in a large scale event production, in collaboration with industry, conducted in a professional event staging venue, will be assessed according to a grading rubric which aims to confirm industry practice, team involvement and professional conduct.
4) FINAL MIX DOWN (Graded)
- You will complete final mix down of the recorded multi track sessions from the event production mentioned in Assessment 3. This will be conducted on campus in a purpose built 5.1 mixing facility. Mixes (bounces) will be made in 5.1 surround format, and a stereo fold down (or alternative mix) will be made and presented to the appropriate Google+ Community for the unit.
To demonstrate competency in this course you will need to complete the following assessment to a satisfactory standard.
You will receive feedback on all assessment and once you have demonstrated competency, you will receive a grade for the graded Assessment Task(s) (refer to MyRMIT for grading rubric).
