Purpose of the Program

During this program you will learn specialized knowledge relating to supply chain automation. Your analytics skills will be developed through the modelling of complex supply chain scenarios and the evaluation of commercial supply chain automation projects. You will become aware of how emerging technologies such as machine learning, AI, robotic automation and blockchain are enabling logisticians to develop deeper knowledge of their own and clients’ businesses and provide holistic supply chain services. Join this program and build the capabilities to confidently manage the implementation and evaluation of supply chain automation. 

You will learn how automation has the potential to enhance the resilience and effectiveness of supply chains. In doing so our communities benefit via the provision of products and services for all aspects of life, from healthcare to poverty reduction. You will apply advanced analytics to model the sustainable impacts of alterative supply chain solutions and be able to inform wider stakeholders of the implications. You will learn how automation is significantly changing workforce, both regarding skills and capacity and the physical demands. This has the potential to address the current gender imbalance in the sector.

Digital technologies will be used extensively for experiential learning immersing learners in practical scenarios provided by our industry partners; 360 virtual site visits, ‘Day in the life’ videos of supply chain automation professions, interviews with industry for key context, challenges and conversations in the supply chain management. Branching scenarios and simulations will allow you to test options and types of solutions to determine which is the most resilient to change, commercially sound and likely to succeed. 

On completion of this qualification, you will leave with in-demand automation skills, improved marketability and a network to support your next career move. You will be able to confidently articulate how automation can deliver benefits to business and with the analytical skills required to execute your strategy. On completion you will also have the opportunity to pathway to the Master of Supply Chain Management.  

The program is designed for working professionals looking to accelerate their logistics career. By improving your supply chain automation capabilities, you will be able to differentiate yourself in the marketplace. Further, by enhancing your analytical skills and industry-specific knowledge you will be able to advance to more senior managerial roles in supply chain automation.  

In line with the requirements of working full time and studying, the program will be delivered part-time, sequentially over the year. Our blended delivery approach will enable those unable to attend class in person to study online whilst also providing a community of peers to share the learning journey. Hybrid fortnightly tutorials will be provided outside of normal working hours for online learners in parallel with those able to attend in person. These sessions will include guest speakers from industry, joint problem-solving activities and prepare you for assessments that have business relevance outside of the classroom. You will finish each course with experiences and artefacts they can add to your public profiles, portfolio or resume. 

The delivery of this program is blended comprising of face-to-face and online learning.

Articulation and pathways

Upon successful completion of the GC211 Graduate Certificate in Supply Chain Automation, you may be eligible for up to 48 credit points of exemption towards MC198 Master of Supply Chain and Logistics Management.

All other credits and exemptions will be assessed in accordance to the RMIT Admissions and Credit Policy and the relevant program structure. Please note, all exemptions are subject to change.

Entrance requirements

The entry requirements for the program are as follows: 

  • A Bachelor of Supply Chain Logistics degree, or equivalent higher-level qualification with a significant analytical component, from a recognised tertiary institution; and  
  • At least 2 years relevant work experience.* 

OR: 

  • No prior academic qualifications but a minimum of 5 years full-time Equivalent (FTE) work experience in the supply chain and logistics field, with a significant focus on analytics. Evidence of working in a supply chain related role is required.* 

*All applicants will be required to submit a curriculum vitae (CV). 

Applicants may demonstrate they meet English language proficiency requirements with evidence of two years professional work experience in an occupation requiring English language proficiency.

External accreditation and industry links

This program is not accredited by any professional body.

The School of Accounting, Information Systems and Supply Chain Industry Advisory Committee (IAC) provide input and guidance to the delivery of the program. The School of Accounting, Information Systems and Supply Chain is closely related to the industry and IAC members are high-profile industry representatives and have a broad network with the industry. The program works closely with the committee to bring real-world business experiences to the curriculum, course design, and classroom.

This program has been co-created with five leading industry partners in logistics and supply chain management, Linfox, DHL, AWS, TMX and Toll. This developmental approach integrates industry perspectives and needs into the program, content and resources through the four core courses. These industry partners will also provide case studies, resources, webinars and expertise to continually shape the learning experience of each course within current practice.

Student expenses and charges in addition to fees

Once you are enrolled as a student in this program you will need to allow for expenses other than university tuition fees.  Additional expenses may relate to the purchase of lecture notes, textbooks, stationery, consumables such as printer paper, fees levied by commercial internet service providers for internet access outside of the university campus, and other relevant costs.
