Purpose of the Program
The Master of Commerce is a technology-focused postgraduate business program that focuses on social impact and sustainable leadership. This program provides you with the specialist discipline knowledge and contemporary digital tools necessary to work and operate effectively in a global business environment. The core courses of the program will provide you with the knowledge, skills and ethics to lead in the business world. This program provides flexible opportunities to customise and adapt your coursework learning to match your specific interests and career aspirations or needs. The Master of Commerce aims to enhance and support your career in operational, managerial and consulting roles.
Throughout this program you will be exposed to a variety of applied activities and industry-partnered learning that will enhance your ability to interpret business information, prioritise and analyse complex issues, and to formulate sustainable plans, ethical strategies, options and solutions. You will participate in face-to-face workshops and online activities and engage in tasks requiring critical analysis and problem solving. Working in groups and individually, you will identify and analyse a range of strategic issues and apply theory to cases and practical problems.
This program allows you to choose your own flexible learning journey from a range of specialisations through the below majors and minors:
- Majors include Business Analytics, International Business and Digital Economy.
- Minors include Accounting for Commerce, Contemporary Supply Chain & Logistics, Financial Planning, Digital Economy, Business Finance, Business Analytics, Business and Technology, Marketing, Managing People in Organisations and International Business.
To complement the core courses within your program you will have three options to personalise your studies to include a major or minor(s).
- Option 1 - complete one major.
- Option 2 - complete two minors.
- Option 3 - complete one minor and four courses from any major/minor.
In addition, you will have a combination of three courses which can be taken from university postgraduate electives, or any major/minor, or professional placement optional course list to further tailor your studies to support your career. The diverse course offerings provide flexible learning opportunities to equip graduates with cutting edge technology-enhanced business skills.
The curated majors and minors in the Master of Commerce aims to enhance and support your career in operational, managerial and consulting roles across a broad range of local and global enterprises and settings including Business Analyst, User Experience (UX) Analyst, Digital Content Curator, Employee Experience (EX) Manager, Digital capability coordinator, Corporate strategist, Concept designer, and Corporate development analyst. Upon successful completion of the program, you may be eligible to undertake further studies in related programs at RMIT University, including postgraduate research programs, subject to program entry requirements.
A capstone experience is provided in OMGT2386 Global Multidisciplinary Business Project which gives you the opportunity to critically reflect on this program’s curriculum. The course promotes the integration and synthesis of a range of knowledge and skills gained in the program and the application of these in discipline related real-world scenarios.
There are two core research courses in this program BUSM4448 Business Research Design and OMGT2386 Multidisciplinary Digital Business Project. These courses are designed to develop your knowledge of research principles and methods and how to apply them within the contemporary business environment. You will have the opportunity to conduct a research project/proposal and further develop your skills in research methodology. The Capstone OMGT2386 Global Multidisciplinary Business Project will finalise your projects and engagement with industry. The industry e-portfolio captures your journey throughout the program, where your class activities and assessment tasks will provide you with a series of artefacts to help you compile and curate a compelling professional identity where you will demonstrate your autonomy, judgment and responsibility in conducting, reporting and reflecting on the opportunities to engage with industry projects.
The delivery of this program is blended comprising of face-to-face and online learning.

GC212 Graduate Certificate in Commerce is an entry and exit point from MC288 Master of Commerce. GD216 Graduate Diploma in Commerce is an exit point from MC288 Master of Commerce.
The below arrangements have been developed in alignment with the RMIT University Credit Policy and related procedures.
1. If you have completed the equivalent of an Australian Bachelor degree* or higher-level qualification in business (or a related discipline), you will be exempt from completing the four (4) courses (48 credit points) below:
- BUSM2664 Future of Work (12 credit points)
- Three (3) University Postgrad Electives (36 credit points)
You must complete an additional twelve (12) courses (144 credit points), which must include a major or the minimum of one minor to qualify for the degree.
2. If you have completed the equivalent of an Australian Bachelor degree* or higher-level qualification in any discipline and have the equivalent of two or more years in full-time work experience, you will be exempt from completing the four (4) courses (48 credit points) below:
- BUSM2664 Future of Work (12 credit points)
- Three (3) University Postgrad Electives (36 credit points)
You must complete an additional twelve (12) courses (144 credit points), which must include a major or the minimum of one minor to qualify for the degree.
3. If you have completed the RMIT GC212 Graduate Certificate in Commerce*, you will be exempt from completing the four (4) courses below:
- ISYS3465 Information Systems for Business Value
- BUSM2664 Future of Work
- BUSM2669 Social Impact and Responsible Business
- BUSM4448 Business Research Design
You must complete an additional twelve (12) courses (144 credit points), which must include a major or the minimum of one minor to qualify for the degree.
4. If you have completed any other RMIT Graduate Certificate* in business (or related discipline), you may be exempt from up to four (4) courses (48 credits points) which may count towards your major/minor courses or University Postgrad Electives, or the four (4) courses (48 credit points) below:
- BUSM2664 Future of Work (12 credit points)
- Three (3) University Postgrad Electives (36 credit points)
You must complete an additional twelve (12) courses (144 credit points), which must include a major or the minimum of one minor to qualify for the degree.
*Please refer to the Masters Advanced Standing Credit Procedure for additional information regarding the recency of previous qualifications. Masters advanced standing credit cannot be transferred to exit awards.
Credit outside of the above arrangements will be assessed consistently with the RMIT University Credit Policy and procedures. If you wish to apply for a credit transfer/RPL, please refer to Apply for credit.
Upon successful completion of the MC288 Master of Commerce, you may be eligible to undertake further studies in related programs at RMIT University, including postgraduate research programs, subject to program entry requirements.

The program works closely with the committee to bring real-world business experiences to the curriculum, course design, and classroom.
